Kurzfassung
Der Beitrag beschreibt den aktuellen Entwicklungstand zum Aufbau einer Europäischen Geodateninfrastruktur (GDI) und hier insbesondere die Initiative INSPIRE. Mit dem Schwerpunkt auf Umweltinformationen will INSPIRE ein Rahmenwerk für den Aufbau einer Europäischen GDI schaffen. INSPIRE zielt darauf, die für die Aufstellung, Umsetzung, Überwachung und Bewertung der Umweltpolitik der Europäischen Union relevanten Geoinformationen Entscheidungsträgern und Bürgern in aufeider abgestimmter und hochwertiger Form verfügbar zu machen.

Abstract
This paper presents the current status of and progress to develop an European Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) considering especially the European Union initiative INSPIRE. Focussing on environmental information INSPIRE aims to create a framework for the development of an European SDI. INSPIRE goals to support the provision of high quality geoinformation that can be seamlessly integrated and harmonised, this way underpinning the implementation, monitoring and assessment of environmental policies within the European Union.
