Kurzfassung
Das Herzogtum Kärnten war bis 1918 größer als heute. Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges waren verschiedene Landesteile abzutreten (Kanaltal, Mießtal, Seeland). Da von Italien im Vertrag von London und im Waffenstillstandsabkommen in der Villa Giusti stets die Wasserscheide als neue Grenze gefordert wurde, wird versucht dies näher zu betrachten. Im Vertrag von St. Germain wurden die Grenzen Kärntens zum SHS-Staat (später: Jugoslawien) und zu Italien zeitgleich behandelt. Trotzdem erfolgte die Festlegung der neuen Grenzen unter verschiedenen Bedingungen. Es wird versucht, Zusammenhänge, die Gegebenheiten und den Vorgang der Grenzziehung zwischen Kärnten und Italien zu beschreiben.

Abstract
The Duchy of Carinthia was originally larger until 1918. After the end of World War I, various parts of the country had to be ceded. Since Italy always demanded the watershed as a new border in the Treaty of London and the Armistice Agreement at Villa Giusti, an attempt is made to take a closer look at this. In the Treaty of St. Germain, Carinthias borders with Yugoslavia and Italy were dealt with at the same time. Nevertheless, the determination of the new borders took place differently. An attempt is made to describe connections, the conditions and the process of finding boundaries between Carinthia and Italy.

Kurzfassung
Der Friedensvertrag von St. Germain-en-Laye vom 10. September 1919 bestimmte die neuen Grenzen der Republik Österreich, deren Festlegung am Beispiel der Österreichisch-Italienischen Staatsgrenze in Tirol und Kärnten hier skizziert werden soll. Dies steht in engem Zusammenhang mit dem Buch „An der Grenze“, das die Auswirkungen der neu gezogenen Grenzlinie auf die auf beiden Seiten lebende Bevölkerung sehr umfassend untersucht. Das Autoren- und Herausgeberteam, bestehend aus HistorikerInnen und KulturanthropologInnen aus allen Teilen Tirols und dem Trentino, legte großen Wert auf interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit, verabsäumte es aber, auch Staatsgrenz- und Vermessungsexperten beizuziehen, sodass es bei Hinweisen zur Staatsgrenze zu einigen Fehlern kommt. Diese möchte der folgende Beitrag richtig stellen.

Abstract
The new boundaries of the Republic of Austria were defined by the Peace Treaty of St. Germain-en-Laye signed on September 10th, 1919 and their determination will be sketched here based on the example of the Austrian-Italian boundary in Tyrol and Carinthia. This is closely connected to the book “An der Grenze” which examines very comprehensively the effects of the new boundary on the people living on both sides. The team of authors and editors, consisting of historians and cultural anthropologists from various parts of Tyrol and Trentino, attached great importance to interdisciplinary cooperation but they forgot to contact experts on international boundaries and surveying thus there are several misinterpretations when referring to the international boundary.The following article is intent on correcting that.
